Lilly Scott was one of this year's few "American Idol" standouts, a quirky high amid a barrage of so-so acoustic strummers and robo-teens. But she, along with a few others who seemed like the only hopes for a solid competition, was ousted from an overwhelmingly underwhelming top 24. That best sums up what's looking to be Idol's weakest season yet.

Anybody can fill out an NCAA basketball tournament bracket. Here's a real challenge. Folks who cast reality TV shows consistently tell us they like coming to the Midwest.

I just received the official press release announcing that Orianthi and Ke$sha will be performing on Wednesday's results show. Oddly, David Cook's appearance isn't mentioned in the release, even though David tweeted that he would be performing, and his appearance is now listed on his official website. Maybe RCA will send out a separate press release.

You don't necessarily have to win "American Idol" to reap the benefits. Jason Castro, who finished fourth on season seven, played for fans at Tulsa's Flytrap Music Hall last week and has an album coming out April 13. He also appeared recently in ABC's televised wedding of "Bachelor" Jason Resnick and Molly Malaney, serenading the couple with a few songs.

On a recent episode of "American Idol," surly judge Simon Cowell tried to explain to one of the contestants the difference between singing a song and re-inventing it. No doubt, most of the contenders on the granddaddy of reality-competition shows have fine instruments, or they wouldn't have made it as far as they have. Nevertheless, the proficiency that Cowell was seeking is all about interpretation.

1997's "Clumsy" and 2000's "Spiritual Machines," according to frontman Raine Maida. "In our hearts, I think we were thinking we'd do 'Naveed' (OLP's 1994 debut)," explained Maida, 40. "But we left it up to our fans and took a couple of polls on different Web sites, and those were the two records that popped up.

Larry Platt , the man behind "Pants on the Ground," has been sued by a music company that recorded his song and wants to be paid up. I have no clue if this lawsuit will hold up or if Platt signed a contract with them. I guess we'll find out soon. -
